A lot of people has taken to blogging in the last two decades, and why not? Blogging has become one of the best ways to share your experiences and knowledge. Seeing all the different kinds of blogs online can make anyone think that they can start writing a blog too. However, most of you would feel discouraged just after spending a few minutes researching as to how to create a blog.

There are tons of blogs specifically aimed at telling you what you should do while starting your blogs, and it is not unusual to feel confused with all the new information. Which advice do you take and which do one do you ignore?

You would be none the wiser, and trying to do everything that those blogs tell you to do would be utterly disastrous. Well if you want to start blogging ASAP, then you certainly opened the right blog. Discussed below are the quick-fire ways to kick-start your blog.

Go with your forte.

The first thing to consider when starting a blog is the theme or the subject(s) on which you want to focus you blogs. If you want to start blogging for your company, then the theme should not be so hard for you, as you would have to use the blogs to let your readers know about the products your company are offering. But if you are thinking of blogging for yourself, then you would have a bit more freedom in choosing your subject.

You can either choose to focus on one particular topic, or you can focus on different topics. But try to stick to topics you are comfortable with.

You do not need to blog about things you are not fully aware of, or on topics you are not comfortable with. Always go with something which you can discuss with your readers in detail. For example, if you are good at photography, stick with that. Do not try to blog about videography if you are not a pro in that department. Just keep in mind that the readers want to know something from you, that’s the reason they opened your blogs in the first place. If they do not feel connected to what you have to say, they have a million more to choose from.

What you need to remember is that you need to make your blog noticeable to people. What you definitely should not do is try to copy someone else. Everyone is unique in their own way, and trying to copy someone else when it comes to blogging can be of lesser help than you think. In today’s world, the internet is full of fads that last a few weeks, and some of the most popular ones even manage to last a year, but if you are thinking of blogging about these, what would you do when they aren’t in fashion any more. Sure you would get a lot of views when they are popular, but it does not take much time for the internet to replace its most loved fads with new ones.

Making the right choice when it comes to platform

If you are thinking of blogging, then you must know what a blogging platform is. But for those who are completely new to the concept of blogging, a blogging platform is basically a software that publishes your blog posts. Of all the platforms out there, WordPress is the most popular. You can also choose from Tumblr, Blogger, Medium.com, and others. WordPress is always recommended to new bloggers as it is very user friendly, and has loads of tools and add-ons to help you get your blog started.

The next thing you want to do is choose whether you want your blogs to be self-hosted or hosted by WordPress itself. Of all the people who want to start blogging, only a handful of people have their own websites, and this is where WordPress makes it easier for people without their own websites to start blogging. By using WordPress.com, you don’t have to worry about servers or payment as WordPress would take care of that.

There are a few downsides to it too. You would not have any custom ad-ons or plugins, and your domain name would be unattractive.

However, if you are willing to pay for the servers, and maintenance of your blogs, then go with WordPress.org. This software can be installed in your PC, and you would get complete control over your blog design, and domain name.

Decide on a design for your blog

After you choose a platform, you need to pick the basic design for your blog. There are a lot of free themes available, but if you want you can also go for professionally designed themes, which of course do not come for free. The more attractive the layout, the better are you are your chances of getting more viewers. If the layout of your blog is flat, and not interesting, it has a psychological effect on the readers, and they might not want to read the entire blog. But if you can offer an attractive layout, your readers would be more interested, and are more likely to go through the entire blog and keep coming back for more.

Social media marketing

After you have created your blog, you would need viewers. But people are not going to visit your page just like that. And the fact that you are a new blogger would not help your case. This is where social media marketing comes into play. Almost everyone has an account on Facebook, or Instagram, or Twitter.

Share your blogs on your all of your social media platforms to maximize the number of people visiting your blogs. Ask your friends to share your blogs so that they get even more exposure. Once you start getting viewers, other people would start visiting your blogs too.

Leave the links to your social media in your blogs as well, so that people start to follow you on social media, and get notified whenever you publish a new blog post. You would basically be using the social media as a notification enhancer.
